For the last two years I have totaled my consumption of movies, plays & books on this blog for no good reason.  Here are the 2010 totals!

In 2010: (2009 & 2008 numbers in parentheses)

I watched 9 movies in the theater. (20,20)

I watched 56 movies on DVD/DVR. (67,47)

I saw 16 plays/musicals. (20,8)

I read 15 books. (17,27)

Wow! I really didn’t go to the movie theatre this year.  But since Hollywood seems to be trying to train all of us to “see it opening weekend in 3-D or don’t bother,” I guess it’s not surprising that most of the time I just didn’t bother.  Now that I have a baby, this number could approach zero in 2011.

Of course my numbers are down across the board this year.  I’m a little disappointed on the book front (I haven’t read a book since September!  Terrible!), but since I had one of my most productive years creating new projects of my own, I think it’s okay that my consumption of other people’s projects dropped a little.

I watched a lot of great TV in 2010, read every issue of the New Yorker, read a lot of good scripts, and played a few video games that were as good or better than the movies I saw. Maybe I’ll add video games to these stats for 2011 (games like Limbo deserve discussion!)

Also I got a Roku Box and a Kindle for Christmas.  And we’re thinking about turning off our cable.

What will happen!?!?!?!?!?!
