Here’s a great email that I got last week:

Subject: “Gotta” Love It…..

Hey there, My name is STRANGER and I am a Canadian currently residing in China. I have recently finished writing a children’s safety book series, which I am in contact with publishers here now and in turn, am pushing for a national safety symbol in China. I have been an EFL teacher to younger students for the past ten years, worldwide.

The reason for my contacting you is that in writing my book series I have come up with a sketch idea for Saturday Night Live; one that will surely equal the success of Wayne’s World. I have written twelve episodes to date and would like to send you the first five for you to look over and to consider taking me on as a worthy assest (getting my sketches read, and produced).

Below is a one page introduction to my sketches. All of my work and its format are copy written, thus immediate proceedings may take place. I am looking for an agent/manager/production company to show my scripts to one client only and nothing more; and that client is NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The rest will fall into place.

Till then, I’ll take this time now to thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Cheers,
STRANGER

SNL Proposed Skit/s

The proposed skit/s for SNL is entitled “Famous Mascots’ Fall From Grace”. Within these skits there are two main characters and two secondary characters, throughout. As well, each skit has a guest mascot written into them, for the SNL host/ess.

After the pilot skit, the remaining skits all take place in the same setting, a bar. The two main characters are Woodsy Owl and Smokey the Bear. Both have fallen off the grid and have hit skid row. Woodsy is a full-time stoner, with Smokey being a full-time drunk. The two meet on a city street bench and from there, they open a bar together.

From the second skit on, each episode has another well known mascot that has hit skid row, visit the bar. As well, before each guest mascot is to enter the skit, Woodsy and Smokey’s dialogue can be related to current affairs, as well as, pending the mascot, so may the entire skit. Or, the entire skit can be retrospect able. There is much leeway.

Main characters;
Woodsy – Woodsy Owl (pollution mascot)
Smokey – Smokey the Bear (forest fire advocate)
Jay – A blue jay that can only be seen when one is stoned/inebriated to the gills.
Joe – Bartender at Smokin’ Jays, the name of Woodsy and Smokey’s bar.

Initial skits/guests;
Pilot – “Park Bench” – Woodsy and Smokey meet for the first time, since their fall from grace.
#2    – “McGruff” – The crime dog commits a serious crime.
#3    - “Silly Rabbit” – Trix’s Silly Rabbit goes insane; finally tastes Trix.
#4    - “Elsie” – Borden’s Milk spokes cow, Elsie, meets her demise.
#5    - “Keebler” – The Keebler elf and Santa’s elves have a drug turf war commence.

The possibilities of guest mascots are endless, and can come from any country and/or sports teams. To date, I have written twelve episodes worth. Some other mascots include the Jolly Green Giant, Chef-Boyardee, Lucky, Elmer the Safety Elephant ( Canada ), etc. There is easily enough material for 1-4 years worth of weekly showings/filming.
